A workshop series introducing the principles of Vastushastra through a critical study of

classical Indian architectural treatises.

The current understanding of Vastushastra is that of a rigid, prescriptive system based on purely esoteric or religious concepts. However, ancient Indian treatises like the Manasara and Samrangasutradhara present Vastushastra as a flexible base for architectural design that can be customized to a specific user, is not independent of function, context, site or climate and is inseparable from the craftsman and his skilled team.

This workshop is for students, academicians or practicing architects interested in understanding the real meaning and context of Vastushastra.
